Hair Modeling Is a very large and booming part of Show Business. These (Typically Weekend Shows) hire so many Models, Hairdressers, Makeup Artists, Photographers and even Designers to showcase beautiful styles and educate the public. Models for these shows are very crucial because we allow people to interactively touch our newly colored, cut or styled hair and ask questions. That’s more than a Mannequin can do!. As a model you can be up on stage having your hair cut, colored or styled LIVE, working in front of the booth driving sales and bringing people in or strutting the runway to show off your new style.

The weekends of a hair model include auditions, auditions, auditions. Typically hair companies cast models in person a day or two below the show.  In some cases you might submit pictures but In most cases you are traveling to Hotels attending open casting calls. When I get my Call Lists of all the companies casting models I organize them by call times and locations. In order to optimize the chances of getting picked It’s important to know when and where all auditions are, travel time between rooms, payment of each company and when is the proper time to leave a casting to attend another. Sometimes companies like to withhold girls without showing their interest and I find that a waste of time so feel free to leave and attend another casting. You need to make money and sitting there unnoticed isn’t making you money. A game plan won’t be the only thing that increases your booking chances. You also want to come physically prepared for your auditions. Wear a fitting black dress or dark jeans, a basic t-shirt and heels. Wear minimal makeup and don’t do anything with your hair other then brush it. You should also carry a binder with a few up to date headshots and any paperwork your agency sends you with.

During the audition remain open minded, confident and have limitations in mind when discussing details with any hair stylist. Upon selection some companies will tell you right then and there and others will call you later to let you know you’ve been selected. If you’re not selected, that’s okay, try again another show.

If you have been selected, congratulations! Your weekend will be filled with a lot of high paced fun and fashion. Companies typically don’t provide wardrobe so be sure to bring a few black and white form fitting dresses plus black heels. They will sometimes pick which outfit for you to wear. In other cases wardrobe will be provided for you. As for makeup, you should at least know how to do your foundation. It’s been about a 50/50 situation that a company has had a makeup artist on staff so be prepared to do your own. Brace yourself for 8-12 hour days. I’d suggest bringing comfortable clothes that you’re okay with getting hair chemicals on. Models also bring, small blankets, phone chargers, books and laptops to use during down time.

You’ll spend the next couple days making some great friends, memories and leaving with a new hairstyle. I mean, who doesn’t like that!.
